These neighborhood connections held remarkable importance in Boston, and the identities they engendered went well beyond ethnicity.  In many areas, residents looked upon their neighborhoods with fierce pride and loyalty, and turf was well-defined.  Even within neighborhoods, blocks were divided up into separate sections by other identities, like class, and residents would think twice before entering the wealthier or poorer section of their town.
